Last year's survey of Music Videos was a popular addition to the Twelve Trek Days Of Christmas and this year, Sebastiaan van Mierlo, the owner of Final Frontier Media, has graciously provided us with his listing of the top music videos of all time!
This year I have been asked to write about music videos for the Twelve Trek Days
of Christmas. My name is Sebastiaan and some of you will know
me as the webmaster of Final
Frontier Media making me the perfect person to write about
them.
Music videos are a special way to express your feelings and emotions,
etc about the series or movies you are a fan of. Star Trek is not the
only show that fans create music videos of, but because of the amount
of footage and the way is has been shot, Star Trek is a favourite
subject for Music Videos. The only problem with them is that, if you
want to share them with others, you need a lot of space on the
internet. Some people could spend hours downloading a video of only 3
to 5 minutes. YouTube is
one alternative for you to share your creations without the need for
space and hours of downloading and over the past few years it has been
quite popular among fans and was filled with Star Trek Music Videos.
Personally, I used to share over 100 music videos on YouTube, but
unfortunately my channel has recently been disabled and all of my
videos deleted. This is the second major problem at this time:
copyright laws and YouTube
- many music videos have been deleted or not even allowed to upload
because of the music that has been used. This problem is becoming
bigger and bigger and I'm not afraid to say that I believe it will
break up YouTube
someday. There are off course other websites we can use, like Metacafe or Dailymotion.
But these sites are under the same regulations and are therefore not
safe either. Although it looks very grim for music videos fans, don't
worry. Internet connections all around the world are getting faster and
downloading a music video doesn't take hours anymore, but more like
minutes. There are also alternatives to using the large video sharing
websites, especially for Star Trek fans such as us. Trek Tube
for example, run by Hailing
Frequency, is a video Sharing site with only Star Trek
Videos, not only music videos but also fan films and much more. This is
the way that I see the world of Star Trek Music Videos today. I've
chosen music videos that I host on Final Frontier Media,
so that you can enjoy them as well. I also host my own videos but it
would be rather arrogant if I were to say that they are the best, so I
will just link you to the page were you can find them and let you judge
them yourself. You can find my music videos here.
I've divided the music videos into categories for each series and their
connected movies, the new movie and a special category for combinations
of series and movies. Finally I'll give you some links of sites which
are worthy to visit.
Star Trek : The Original Series
At the moment of writing this there are 62 music videos online at FinalFrontier Media which are about the Original series. Beside myself,
McCoySpockLove,
T'Gin,
Mary
van Deusen and various other
people have created TOS music videos. A lot of people create slash
music videos which, for people who don't know, are about two characters
of the same gender having a relationship. They are quite popular among
the female creators of music videos and usually involve Kirk and Spock
or McCoy and Spock. I've chosen six music videos which show you what
kind of videos are being created for TOS (some have little scenes from
other series as well) so that hopefully you want to download all 62 of
them after watching these six! By looking for the six best videos I
have already came across a problem: there are much more than only six
good videos. So, yes it's possible that there are more and better music
videos than these but it's also a matter of taste. The six music videos
are listed below, along with a link for you to download them as well as
an explanation of why I've chosen them.

story with a slash relationship and does it very well. The music in
this video is important because it defines its subject of this video,

Deusen. She created them in 'the age of the VHS recorder' which makes
it even more impressive. I've chosen this music video which revolves
around Sarek because of the feeling that this music video gives you. It
catches you, and never lets you go. It's really difficult to do this.
Mary has done a good job on this video.

we're not there yet. This music video from Mary van Deusen shows this
with scenes from the series and movies. This video is a good example of
an overall subject. The images don't always fit the lyrics, but they do
with the subject.

Star
Trek : The Next Generation
Atthe moment of writing this,
there are fifteen music videos online at
Final Frontier Media which are about The Next Generation. Beside myself,
ScifiSpace,
Mary
van Deusen and various other
people have created TNG music videos. TNG is probably the least popular
subject for music videos and it's difficult to say where the problem
lies. TNG music videos are mostly about the common feeling of the
series or are character based, I haven't seen any slash videos or fake
relationships. I've chosen three music videos which will give you an
idea that TNG is a great source for music videos so that hopefully you
will download all fifteen since there are much more than just these
three, there are still more that are not known to me. You can see my
choices below and my reasons for choosing them, download them and and
watch them.

Trek : Deep Space Nine
AsI write this, there are 38 music videos online at Final Frontier
Media about Deep Space Nine created by myself,

people. There is a great diversity in the music videos for this series,
probably the largest of all series and videos about the Dominion war
and the relationships of the crew are quite popular. I've chosen six
music videos which show you what has been created and hopefully you
will want to download all 38 of them after watching these. I've broken
them down into subcategories because DS9 has such a wide diversity of
subjects. There are much more than only the six good videos you can see

relationship there could have been between Captain Janeway and
Commander Chakotay, you can see a lot of character based Voyager music

that large number is very difficult, so I've chosen to group them into

Themost popular subjects for the 71 Enterprise music videos currently
online at Final Frontier Media by ScifiSpace,
Linsey
and various others,
are the possible relationship between Archer and T'Pol, the Xindi War
and the friendship amongst the crew. have created a total of about
Enterprise. Again it's difficult to choose only a few out of so many
but I think the four I've picked represent very good Enterprise videos.
I hope they will act as an introduction to the other 71 you can
download and that you will agree with my reasoning for choosing them.

have written a total of 27 music videos which are now online at Final
Frontier Media involving all series. Still popular are the 40th
anniversary videos created several years ago since they are usually
made up of themed clips that are combination of all series, themes
include love and friendship or a common subject, like the ship
Enterprise. I've chosen five music videos which show you the kind of
work being created to tempt you to download all 27 of them. They are in
my opinion the best I've got to offer at my website and of course my
own videos are not used in this.

which combines all the scary and creepy stuff of two series together.
Very well created by Trekscaper and Bloempje721, the editing is just
superb and gives you that creepy feeling. An excellent example on how
to create a music video with multiple series on one subject.
Star
Trek : 2009
Atthe moment there is only one music video online at Final Frontier
Media about the latest movie. Because the movie is very new,
there is
very little footage available that we can make different
music videos with and what there is such poor quality - usually because
it has been filmed illegaly - that it is just
not useable for a high quality video. Although I've said I wouldn't
choose a video of my own, I just don't have anything else. Besides, I
think it's a great music video, and next year a lot more will be
available.

me,
says it all for the movie. The lack of footage makes it quite difficult
to create a love/friendship video but this combines the action of the
music with the action of the movie which I think is a good combination.
Hopefully more music videos will appear over time but for now I've
chosen for this music video created by myself.

Becausethis list is made by me, it is of course subjective andprobably
you have a totally different opinion. Well, give us your view, share
it,
share your own music videos, talk about them, download the music videos
of others and help keep Star Trek alive! These days there are fewer
limits to the space on your Computer or the Internet that you can use
to
show what you're capable off. Not only do music videos profit but Fan

My apologies, ladies and gentlemen, for the formatting of this post. This is about my fourth attempt to get it right and although I have got most of the bugs out of it using KompoZer, it has put random line breaks into the post! My particular apologies to Sebastiaan who in all good faith has done such a great job of picking out and hosting these music videos at short notice. I can assure you that he has done a much better job of his own website, Final Frontier Media (click on the banner above)!
